This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, Principal Ecologist to join an enthusiastic team delivering projects to a wide range of clients. We are keen to recruit a self-motivated person who is looking to move onwards and upwards from their current situation and given the opportunity to help build our ecology services in either our Basingstoke, Milton Keynes or new office to be located on the south coast (location to be determined).
You will support the senior management team on the leadership on a range of types and sizes of projects, including major infrastructure, urban regeneration and environmental enhancement schemes.
Reporting to the Technical Director of Ecology and Regional Director for the South East, you will lead in the delivery of a complete range of ecological projects to our wide ranging client base mainly across the South East, East Anglia and Southern Central England.
We will consider applicants with a wide range of experience but a proven track record in UK based ecology with a minimum of 8 years’ experience is highly desirable. Experience in either aquatic ecology / HRA / invertebrate/ bird survey or botany would be highly desirable. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the management of the regional ecology team
- Provision of high level technical expertise to the business
- Business development
- Preparation of fee quotes and tenders
- Managing ecology projects, including appraisals and EcIAs
- Maintaining and developing client relationships
- Leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects

- Protected species licence holder (bat licence highly desirable)
- Experience of delivering EcIA and HRA
- Obtaining EPS mitigation licences
- Excellent report writing skills
- Relevant degree / postgraduate degree
- Full membership of CIEEM
- Full driving licence
- Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist status
- An interest in aquatic ecology / HRA / Invertebrate or Botany high desirable
- Training and mentoring of junior staff
- Good understanding of habitat creation and species specific needs and requirements
On a personal level, we are looking for an enthusiastic and confident professional with good communication skills and the ability to fit into our friendly, lively and ambitious team. Training will be providing in respect of protected species licencing systems.
